Meet Dr. Dorothy Adcock
We are proud to introduce Dr. Dorothy Adcock, an important member of the BeaconLBS Clinical Advisory Team. Dr. Adcock is an eminent specialist in the field of pathology who collaborates with our clinical team in the development of clinical policies, which support the BeaconLBS Lab Benefit Management programs. These policies are key to the success of these initiatives, as they guide health plans in their test utilization programs. We are thankful for the wealth of experience that she brings to the team.
Currently, Dr. Adcock is the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of LabCorp Diagnostics. She was recently designated as a Master by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), which was formally conferred during the ASCP 2019 Annual Meeting, and honors members who have made significant contributions in the field of pathology through sustained service to the profession.
Dr. Adcock’s expertise is in clinical pathology, particularly hemostasis (bleeding and clotting disorders) and has been involved in the field for 30 years both nationally and internationally. She chairs the Hematology and Pathology Device Panel for the Food and Drug Administration and currently serves on the publications committee for the College of American Pathologists. She is actively involved with the International Council for Standardization in Hematology, has drafted several guidances and guideline documents in the area of hemostasis. She has served as a member of the Hematopathology Test Development and Advisory Committee of the American Board of Pathology and is the past-president of the North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratory Association (NASCOLA). She serves on the Coagulation Standards Committee for the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). Having authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters related to Hemostasis, she is a frequent lecturer internationally. She was previously active with Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute.
Dr. Adcock was born in Detroit, Michigan and received both her B.S. and M.D. from Michigan State University. She completed her residency in Pathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She is married to a retired mechanical engineer and currently resides in North Carolina. She has one daughter, an attorney who practices family law. In her spare time, Dr. Adcock enjoys cooking, gardening, and hiking.
